RE: Power Commander USB III Fuel Mileage

Thanks kpapa, I contacted Dyna Jet last night and explained my fuel mileage question. They said my gas mileage is normal for my setup. Went back and looked at my fuel mileage records and this is how it brakes down. I did not start keeping records until I put the power commander on but I believe I was averaging 38 to 37 mpg with less than 3000 miles on the motor. Once I installed the power commander I averaged 36.5 mpg. A month later I installed the Arlen Ness Big Sucker air cleaner. I then averaged 33 to 35 mpg. Then this January I installed the Vance and Hines true Dual Header pipes to the stock mufflers. I'm now averaging 32.5 to 34.2 mpg. I took a long ride on the second of September, 150 miles mostly highway in which I got 38 mpg. This morning I counted the number of traffic lights I go through on my daily commute, there are seventeen, twelve in which are in the first seven miles from the house. I usually catch a third of them. So I guess this qualifies as city driving. I've gone on long enough. Just would like to know what other peoples fuel mileage is on their '07 Ultras. Thanks all, BlueFalcon

Power Commander USB III Fuel Mileage

I was wondering if Y'all could help me with this. I've got a power commander USB III hooked up to my '07 Ultra with big sucker air cleaner, Vance & Hines true dual header pipes attached to the stock mufflers. The power commander has a custom map developed by Fuel Moto, the people I bought it from. They are a very reputable company and trust that their map is close if not spot on. My question is. What should my fuel mileage be? Contacted my local Harley shop who tunes power commanders for $200. They say I should be getting about 34 mpg and not to spend the money for a dyno if that's what I'm getting. I hear other people getting better gas mileage. So tell me, what should it be for this setup. I'm averaging 32 to 34 mpg.

Seat (Butt) Pads

I'm looking at getting a seat pad for my Ultra. Which do you prefer, Airhawk, Gel pads, or Alaska Leathers' sheepskin pad?

'09 Touring Exhaust

Well, well, well. Have you seen the exhaust on the new 2009 Touring bikes? It looks like some Harley Engineer read my post dated 29 Feb 08 under the topic 07 Ultra Passenger Heat Problem in where I stated " Harley should stop building bikes with crossover pipes and design there exhaust systems like the Victory Vision in where the rear cylinder exhaust is routed down then out,aft of the swing arm." Now, they routed the front exhaust under the swingarm instead of the rear exhaust and routed the rear exhaust forward like a two into one pipe. It's nice to know that Mother Harley does look at this Forum site but I'm not going to hold my breath as to when I should receive my royalty checks in the mail.

RE: Anybody like the new Road King Custom?

Just had someone from work drop his Victory Vision on the front fender of my Ultra yesterday. Got a repair estimate today. New color matched fender and an hour and a half labor. $535.00. Six weeks lead time on getting the new fender.

RE: 1986 Radian Fuel Leak

Its most likely a sticky carburetor float. I believe your bike has the cylinder bank canted forward at about 45 degrees. The fuel will drain into the motor this way. If you had a bike in which the carburetor sets parallel you could spot it right away as the float bowl would be wet, thus pointing out which floats bad.

RE: oil and filters

I recommend Amsoil oil and filter and a K&N air filter. Any shop can get you a K&N air filter. Stage 1 & Big Sucker are all K&N filters. Amsoil is the best oil out there. Its heat reducing properties are second to none.

RE: 07 Ultra Passenger Heat Problem

I just removed the lowers last Wednesday in preparation for the summer riding season. There is virtually no heat issue at all. The left floorboard measures about 10 degrees higher than ambient air temperature while at speeds above 30 mph. I haven't got caught in stop and go traffic yet but I suspect that temps could get about 20 to 30 degrees hotter than ambient air depending on how long I'm stuck in traffic. I still haven't got the wife on the back yet but I'm sure she'll be pleased. For now, with temps in Maryland hovering in the upper 70's , I'm very happy.

RE: 2007 Ultra and Heat Issues

With out a doubt. Get the oil cooler. My experience with the Power Commander did not lower the heat. On my '07 Ultra, I'm running a Power Commander, Stage 1 Air Cleaner and Vance & Hines True Dual header pipes attached to my stock mufflers along with a oil cooler. I'm pretty happy with that setup but my fuel mileage is only 32 mpg.

RE: fuel milage

I'm going to take a guess and guess that you had a dealership install the stage one and pipes. This means they installed the SERT and flashed it with there HD stage one program. Others who have had this done are also complaining of low gas mileage. My guess would be that some, but not all dealers are loading an incorrect program. The technician may think he has the correct program when indeed it has been rescinded. Some dealers may not be on the ball with there SERT programs. With that being said your Heritage should be getting about 35 mpg. I've read where others have stated mpg's in the 40's. I myself cannot see how this is possible when my 1100cc Honda was getting 44 mpg. How can a nearly 1600cc v-twin get that kind of mileage?

RE: whick bike GL1800 or K1200LT

Buy the Gold Wing. Buy a travel trailer that pops up as a camper. Load the floor of the camper with all your belongings. Have a campsite atlas and then take the whole summer off.

RE: 07 Ultra Passenger Heat Problem

I just finished installing the Vance and Hines dresser dual header pipes to my stock mufflers a month ago. It took me four and a half hours to do in the comfort of my garage. It wasn’t necessarily hard, just a little time consuming. As Hawg Man said, it sounds throatier. The right crossover pipe is gone and so is the heat. The heat on the left pipe/passenger floorboard stayed the same. (About twenty degrees higher than ambient air temperature while cruising with the lowers installed) I’ll continue removing the lowers in the summer to maximize the air flowing along side the motor. Again, as Hawg Man said, I don’t feel any reduction in power. If there is any loss, the reduction in heat outweighs the loss of power. The fuel mileage went down a little from 32mpg to 31 mpg city. Now, this is my first Harley I’ve ever owned our ridden. I’ve spent over twelve hundred dollars in parts and done all the installation work myself trying to cool this bike down. It’s now obvious to me that I’ll never own another Harley without having a True Dual exhaust system. Harley should stop building touring bikes with crossover pipes and design there exhaust systems like the Victory Vision in where the rear cylinder exhaust is routed down then out, aft of the swing arm. I would like to extend a great Thank You to Tommy Tune for suggesting to go to True Duals. Hawg Man for his Fullsac Performance (like) modification in which he went into great detail describing power, torque, heat reduction and sound. Hawg Man, I paid the extra hundred dollars for the Vance and Hines over the Fullsac Performance pipe because I liked the way the one piece heat shield looked over the stock HD shields. 1Big’n, I didn’t go with the Rhineharts because they where too expensive and you told me that they stick out more than stock beside the left passenger floorboard, and if you had an inattentive passenger (which my wife isn’t) she could burn her leg. Payloader for telling me although the Power Commander did not remove any heat, it sure made it easy to match the modifications I made to get to this point. Also he pretty much said that I wouldn’t feel much difference if I had spent four hundred dollars on a set of slip-ons. Finally, to all Forum members, Thank You. I hope I can help you in the future as you have helped me. I'll post back on this topic once I get the wife back on it. It'll have to get alot warmer before that happens. If I don't get caught in traffic, I'm sure she'll be pleased. See Ya out on the rode. BlueFalcon
